About the event

Join us for a field trip! This month we will take advantage of the time change and the early darkness. On Saturday, 11/15 we will go on an evening exploration hike around Blue Heron Lake (formerly Stow Lake) right here in San Francisco.

We will meet at the boat house at 4:30 (there is a parking lot and a bathroom). As dusk is falling, we will walk up Strawberry Hill and listen for the resident owls to begin their evening hoots. As we experience the thrill of being out as dark falls, we can look for raccoons and other nighttime critters. It will be easy to join for as much or little of this adventure as your family is up for! If you feel nervous about the park at night, this hike is for you. We will have safety in numbers, extra headlamps and extra hands available. This hike is completely stroller or wagon friendly.

Field trips are free and open to all ages, friends, and family! Please sign up here so we know to wait for you, and so you have contact info and details to meet up with the group.

Meet at 4:30PM at the Blue Heron Boathouse

Bring a stroller if it's helpful to you. Please dress in warm layers. Bring a flashlight or headlamp if you have one (phone lights work, too).

NOTE: Please no super powerful headlamps or flashlights. These can hurt our eyes and often do when placed in little hands. There are street lamps and lots of ambient light that make powerful flashlights unnecessary.
