August: Family Outdoor Adventures in the Bay!

Once again, while we are on break, here are some free or low cost events that are family friendly, and would be a great way to get outside / learn about nature!

Series of hikes to introduce you to the beauty and biodiversity of your San Mateo County Parks! Hike up the Dairy Ravine Trail to the summit and back down the Eucalyptus Trail.

Presidio Tunnel Tops East Meadow

Join us for a family-friendly celebration of Latin culture, dance, music, and community, all with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Move to the rhythm with Salsa, Merengue, and Cumbia dance classes. Little ones and families alike will enjoy arts & crafts, face painting, lawn games, and live performances – all in a fun, welcoming atmosphere.

The meadows and surrounding forest are beautiful and so much fun to explore in! Bathrooms available halfway into the program.

Bring a snack. Strollers are not recommended for most hikes.

Join your neighbors on the water! Rocking the Boat invites families and friends to take part in free Community Rowing Days at India Basin Waterfront Park. Climb aboard Rocking the Boat’s student-built rowboats for a chance to slow down, share time together, and enjoy the Bay in good company.

Meet live bats and learn about the bats of San Francisco, amazing, winged wonders. Learn how they fly, what they hunt and echolocation. Bats are vital to gardening and farming due to the quantity of agricultural pests that they consume. Learn about local species and have the opportunity to meet live, native bats.

Sunset Dunes Park SF (@ Judah St)

The Western snowy plovers are returning to Ocean Beach/Sunset Dunes this July, having finished their nesting season elsewhere! These tiny, protected shorebirds will be hanging out on the shoreline, making it the perfect time for a beachside welcome party. The Roving Ranger will be out at Sunset Dunes +Judah to engage visitors and community members.
